Model 3 Approved for the New York City Taxi Service

New York City’s Taxi and Limousine Commission approved Tesla’s iconic Model 3 sedan as an allowable taxi. The recent addition marks the first all-electric vehicle in the iconic fleet. The vehicles are approved for use as for-hire vehicles. As a result, the owners of the vehicles can rent their cars to services like Uber and Lyft. But records show none of the owners have registered their vehicles yet.

As the number is limited, if a person is buying the car for taxi purposes, they have to register to get the right to operate. This is not the first time when the auto maker’s vehicle is used as a cab, but the iconic yellow and black color makes the event more interesting.

Previously, a company called Ohio brought ten Tesla 3S model to use in the fleet. A Tesla is operating as a taxi in Quebec city in Canada. The car is operating since 2014 in the country. The car registered 1,00,000 miles in the first two years. But, there is no taxi has registered in New York City yet.

The EEO of Tesla, Elon Musk, revealed his plan of producing one million autonomous robot taxies by the end of 2020.
